Ministry of Agriculture: the situation with locusts is complicated

In the current year 2024, the spread of locust herds is forecasted on an area of 2.5 million hectares, which is 1 million hectares more than last year. This is due to the peak of natural increase in the number of pests, World of NAN reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The greatest spread this year is expected in Aktobe region - 784 thousand hectares, Kostanai region - 776 thousand hectares and Turkestan region - 271 thousand hectares.

To combat locusts 4.2 billion tenge has been allocated in advance from the republican budget, additionally 3.9 billion tenge has been allocated from the reserve of the government.

Currently, to combat locusts, a stock of pesticides for treatment of 1.16 million hectares has been purchased in a timely manner. In addition, contracts for the purchase of pesticides on the area of 1.3 million hectares have been concluded, tender procedures are ongoing for the area of 153 thousand hectares.

Contracts for purchase of chemical treatment services have been concluded for the area of 1.75 million hectares, tender procedures for the area of 794 thousand hectares are ongoing.

Since April 16, protective measures against Moroccan locusts are carried out in the Turkestan region. In Aktobe and Kostanai regions - monitoring of the state of gobies is underway, in these two regions, the expected dates of the beginning of work - the second half of May.
