A growing problem: processors refuse local milk

The Chamber of Entrepreneurs in Pavlodar region was approached by cattle breeders who had invested heavily in dairy farmers but were turned down by milk processors, World of NAN reports citing NCE.

"They are being told that they will not take milk from them. This is the problem they came to us with. But the development of farm livestock and increased production of milk and dairy products is a state issue," said Zhomart Sembayev, deputy director of Atameken.

This year, for the first time, Pavlodar dairy farms faced the fact that milk processing companies in the region limit the volume of milk purchased. Before that, processors' capacities were not so loaded.

"We imported milk from other regions. There will be even more milk in summer. There will be a problem where to put it. The main reason is that, as processors say, "our warehouses are full of our products, and we can't sell them". Because of this, they can't buy milk," said Tolegen Kosherbayev, deputy head of the Agriculture Department.

Kazakhstan is also one of the leaders in milk powder imports. Perhaps it is much more profitable for local processors to use dried milk in their production.
