Floods: there are farmers who have lost literally everything

As of today, there is no accurate assessment of farmers affected by floods. However, the high water did not bypass the farms, some of them lost their livestock, while others had their warehouses of seeds and equipment flooded, World of NAN reports with reference to 24.kz.

It is also worth noting that floods that flooded the fields will lead to water erosion. The water can wash away the top fertile layer of soil and no good harvest should be expected on these fields.

"It is difficult to grow anything after water erosion. These fields should be left fallow for a year. Or other crops should be sown," said Akpar Maulenov, deputy chairman of the Kazakhstani Farmers' Association.

At the same time, there is no accurate assessment of the affected croplands. The Kazakhstan Farmers Association believes no one will keep count of such land. Simply because there is no clear algorithm of actions.

"There are farmers who have lost literally everything. We recently met with a farmer from Amangeldy District, Kostanai Region. He lives separately on a wintering site, he has both livestock and equipment there. Literally in one day he lost all the livestock and equipment. He roughly calculated that he suffered 300 million tenge in losses. And this money cannot be recovered in two or three years," Akpar Maulenov said.

Farmers have yet to calculate their losses. But the Farmers' Association proposes to forgive the credit debts of the affected farmers in the second-tier banks, Agrarian Credit Corporation and Kazagrofinance.
