The rural quota is a type of quota that is taken into account in the competition for state educational grants. Young people from rural areas can apply for it.

Does the quota mean that certain points are added to the results of the UNT?

No. The rural quota does not add points to the UNT results. However, if there is a quota, the chances of receiving a scholarship increase by reducing the number of applicants for the specialty grant. There are rules for awarding educational grants in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It clearly states, "The competition for educational programs for which there is a quota for citizens from among the rural youth is as follows: 70% of grants from their total number on these specialties and language of training are awarded in the order of the general competition, and for the remaining 30% of grants competition is held only among applicants from among the rural youth.

Oral Mukhtarovich, is the quota taken into account when entering any specialty or there are restrictions?

There are restrictions. The quota is set for those educational programs that are important for the development of the rural areas. The list of educational programs for which the rural quota applies changes from year to year.

Is there a provision for working in the rural areas when applying for the study on the rural quota?

Yes. If an applicant enters a university on the rural quota, he or she will have to "serve it out" in the future. The period of serving it is 3 years.

Oral Mukhtarovich, please share some information about your university? How many students entered on the rural quota in the last 2-3 years? What majors did they choose more often?

In the 2019 academic year, 76 people entered the university on the rural quota. Of those, 40 chose a pedagogical track. 36 students enrolled in social, economic, informational, engineering, and agricultural specialties. In 2020, there were more - 86 people were admitted. In 2021, 116 people were admitted to our university. Of these, 82 chose the pedagogical specialty. It should be noted that students prefer pedagogical specialties, as most grants under the rural quota are allocated precisely for them. For example, in 2019, 11 grants were allocated for the educational program "Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages", in 2020 - 16, and in 2021 - 39 grants on the rural quota.
