The farmers of the Keles district are harvesting. Farmers began to sell their first products, including those for export, reports World of NAN.
About 500 hectares of early-ripening watermelons were planted in the rural districts of Bozai and Zhambyl, far from the district center.
"We've been growing watermelons for several years, it's profitable. This year we planted several types of watermelons and got 40-45 tons of products from one hectare. The demand is high because our watermelons grow on sandy soil on the banks of the Syrdarya River. They taste great," said Mahanbet Kasymbekov, chairman of the Zhambyl Production Cooperative.
The co-operative has 20 families. It exports melons to Russia. Watermelons from the Zhambyl production cooperative are sold in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent.
Note, this year in Keles district 1864 hectares of melons were sown with melon crops. Of these, melons - 682 hectares, watermelons - 1182.
