Farmers can't get money for their cotton

Deputy Akim of Turkestan region Yermek Kenzhekhanuly visited Zhetysay, Maktaaral and Shardara districts and met with cotton growers. The farmers were outraged that they have not yet received money for the raw material they have handed over for processing, World of NAN reports.

According to the regional Akimat, the debts of cotton processing plants to farmers currently amounts to 1.6 billion tenge.

The meeting was attended by the Akim of Zhetysay and Maktaaral districts, heads of cotton plants and microfinance organizations of the region, and farmers of the districts engaged in cotton growing.

During the event, farmers and heads of cotton factories received answers to their questions.

In 2022, cotton was sown on 126.3 thousand hectares and 361.8 thousand tons of products were harvested. This year, the sown area of cotton is planned to be reduced by 14.9 thousand hectares and placed on 111.4 thousand hectares.

During the conversation, the deputy Akim Y. Kenzhekhanuly noted that the export of cotton fiber has been difficult because of the geopolitical situation, which, as you know, began in 2022. This directly affects the cost of raw cotton, said Y. Kenzhekhanuly.

The akimat intends to continue to hold meetings with the owners of cotton processing plants in order to protect the interests of agricultural organizations.
