Australia to test GMO wheat and barley

It is extremely difficult to grow a rich crop in the country's conditions, so it has been decided to test genetically modified wheat and barley, World of NAN reports.

The field trials will be conducted by the University of Adelaide. The scientists aim to increase crop yields and their resistance to climate stresses.

The first sowing will take place on a land plot in South Australia with a maximum area of two hectares. The efficiency trials will run from 2024 to 2029. Grain from the field trials is not allowed for consumption by humans or animals.

Authorities believe that the experiment poses no significant risks to people or the environment. If the trials live up to expectations, it is possible that the crops will be introduced.
