Workers in the agricultural sector remain among the lowest paid in the country and are leaving the industry. Wages in agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the first quarter amounted to an average of 179.4 thousand tenge per month. This is almost half as much as the average nominal wage in Kazakhstan, reports the World of NAN.
According to the analytical agency finprom, the employees of the fisheries and aquaculture, as well as the forestry sector and logging have the lowest average monthly wages in the country: only 120.6 thousand and 143.8 thousand tenge, respectively.
The situation is only slightly better in crop and livestock production, hunting and services in these areas: 180,900 tenge per month on average. The same low salaries are received only by employees of pre-school education, real estate operations (for a fee or on a contractual basis), and veterinary activities.
"At the same time, the purchasing power of wages in the agricultural sector for the year grew by 3.8%, while the average wage in the country decreased, albeit slightly (by 0.6%). The indicator increased in crop and livestock production, hunting and services in these areas by 4.2%, and in fisheries and aquaculture - by 1.2%. At the same time in the sphere of forestry and timber, on the contrary, there is a decrease, by 12.1% at once", - say the analysts.
It is worth noting that in the current year salaries of workers in the fisheries sector may become higher, but this only applies to those who work at state enterprises: the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources announced a doubling of salaries in the sector from July 1 this year.
The number of hired workers in agricultural sector continues to decrease, and reached the lowest figures for all time. Thus, the reported number of employees in the 1st quarter of this year was 65.8 thousand people, which is 1.9% less than in the 1st quarter of 2022, while the actual number of employees was 58 thousand people, 1.3% less than a year before. It should be noted that a year ago the number of hired workers in the agricultural sector also showed a decline: the number on the payroll - by 3.5%, the actual - by 0.5%.
The capital investments in agriculture in January-May this year amounted to 269.9 billion tenge, which is 34.6% more in monetary terms than in January-May 2022 (IFO - 130.8%).
More than 98% of investments in the sector came from crop and livestock production, hunting and services in these areas: 264.9 billion tenge, of which 174.8 billion tenge for seasonal crops and another 62.2 billion tenge for livestock.
Capital investment in fisheries and aquaculture in January-May 2023 amounted to 4.9 billion tenge, 2.2 times more in money than a year earlier, and in forestry and timber - only 136.9 million tenge.
