To recall, according to official data, Kyrgyzstan has suspended water supply from the Kirov reservoir because the Kazakh side has exhausted its limit. The editors of World of NAN below would like to present the Kyrgyz media's view of the situation. The material was published on agro.kg.
The Kazakh authorities are calculating the damage from the catastrophic water shortage and blame Kyrgyzstan with its shoaled (almost completely dried up) Kirov reservoir, from where water has stopped coming to them and to us. Emotions are off the scale and are pouring over the edge unlike water. The Kyrgyz are again such and such - almost conscious and purposeful pests of Kazakh agriculture ...
The history of relations between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan dates back to time immemorial. And for the whole history there was no moment when the Kyrgyz would have refused to lend a helping hand to the brotherly people. President Tokayev in a rush of waterless emotions has forgotten many things that should not be forgotten. Neither he, nor his predecessor Nazarbayev.
As far as water is concerned, Kyrgyzstan has always proceeded from the interests of brotherly Kazakhstan, sometimes forgetting its own interests. Water was supplied to the neighboring republic uninterruptedly in strict accordance with agreements, schedules and signed protocols. And it is not Kyrgyzstan's fault that its neighbors managed to drain all their limit before August 5. And this is despite the fact that the Kyrgyz used their water on a limited basis and received less water than they needed. They were patient. The Kazakh side wanted everything at once. So who is to blame now?
Critical water shortage is a common Central Asian misfortune this summer. And it is at least improper to put the question: Kyrgyz, give us water, even if it is to your own detriment.
And Kazakhstan has declared a "trade war" against Kyrgyzstan in retaliation for the water shortage. Once again, kilometer-long traffic jams have formed on the border. Officially, both Kyrgyz and Kazakh sides claim that there are no problems with the passage of heavy trucks. But behind the scenes, the explanation for all this is that it's Tokayev's small but tangible revenge on Sadyr Zhapaprov, who allegedly left him without water and without crops.
This is hardly a good solution. Infinite mutual grievances will not lead far.
