The Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Affairs Serik Yegizbayev criticized the work of the Ministry of Agriculture in seed production at the government meeting, World of NAN reports.
Last year, Kazakhstan spent over 60 billion tenge on seed imports, and it was this fact that displeased the Majilis deputy.
"Kazakhstan is 95% dependent on imports of vegetable seeds and 80% on imports of fruit seedlings. The geography of importing countries: Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, India, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and even Ukraine," said Serik Yegizbayev.
By importing seeds, Kazakhstan actively supports and develops seed production of foreign countries. Recall, in 2022, the President instructed the Government to take measures to develop the first seed production on the basis of experimental farms.
"However, the Ministry of Agriculture has not yet reviewed the order providing subsidies for the importation of seeds, not production. We recommend the Government to consider the issue of development of domestic seed production and strictly implement the President's order", - expressed his position the deputy.
