Additional income: export of hides increased by 72%

According to the monitoring agency, Energyprom, exports of unprocessed hides of cattle and horses increased by 72.9% year-on-year to 3,400 tons in January-August 2023, World of NAN reports.

The main buyer is Russia. This year, shipments of raw hides of small cattle also went abroad: 8,000 units of raw materials were sent to Uzbekistan. Last year this product was not exported. Thus, cattle breeders got additional income.

Kazakh farmers prefer to send part of raw hides abroad, rather than hand them over to domestic tanneries. Because of this, processing companies have reduced the volume of supplies of processed raw materials for leather products abroad.

Thus, the export of tanned leather or leather dye (without finishing) from cattle hides decreased by 43.7%. In January-August 2022, 4.3 thousand tons of such semi-finished products were shipped to China, India, Turkey and Italy, while in the first eight months of this year - only 2.4 thousand tons. Processed hides of small horned cattle were also shipped less: the volume of exports decreased by 25%.
