Export of animal hides may be opened in Kazakhstan

The issue of export of hides was raised by farmers of Shemonaikh town of East Kazakhstan region at the meeting with the Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin, World of NAN reports referring to the press service of the Government.

The issue of sale of hides of large and small cattle was raised by the head of the peasant farm "Raush" Alexander Raush.

"We have nowhere to dispose of the hides. They are thrown away. Can't we organize a centralized collection of hides, or to stipulate in the legislation that the producer must deliver the hides to the collection point?". - the farmer asked.

According to the Minister of Commerce, this is one of the most frequent questions that is asked at meetings with farmers in the regions.

"The current restrictions on the export of hides have now led to the fact that such raw materials have become almost irrelevant. Meanwhile, farms and villagers could get real money out of it. We will soon consider the possibility of opening the export of hides at the Interdepartmental Commission without infringing on the interests of specialized enterprises for their processing within Kazakhstan," said Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.

As a reminder, previously, farmers could earn money by exporting skins abroad. However, since 2016, an export ban and then export duties were imposed. The restrictive measures were taken ostensibly for the development of domestic processing, but it did not show any positive effect. On the contrary, farmers lost additional income, and raw materials became unclaimed on the domestic market.
