More than 3 billion tenge is spent annually in Kazakhstan on space monitoring

Chairman of the Aerospace Committee Baubek Oralmagambetov at the briefing in the Central Communications Service spoke about how much money is being spent on space monitoring and how many ownerless pastures and poorly used lands the country has, World of NAN reports.

The Aerospace Committee works on two groups of land surveying, which includes data from three satellites. The main sources of monitoring are satellite images. The analysis is provided in 10 directions for different organizations, among which are space monitoring of crops, pastures and land use for the Ministry of Agriculture. For example, over three years the committee took an inventory of pastures in 61 districts of Kazakhstan. 127.7 million hectares were researched, which is 68% of all pastures of the country. Their digital maps have been created. The monitoring assessed the condition of pastures, their productivity, vegetation, as well as the degree of degradation.

"In 2021, pasture studies were conducted in 45 districts. During the analysis we found a problem: 39.9 million hectares of pastures are not linked to the automated information system of the state land cadastre. The reason for this may be errors in the information system, or late entry of data", - explained Baubek Oralmagambetov.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, since 2020, within the framework of the instructions of the Head of the State, monitoring of reasonable use of agricultural land is carried out. In order to conduct monitoring an archive for 4 years is collected for all agricultural land.

"We carried out integration with the automated information system of the state land cadastre and identification of farm animals and land balance data.  Monitoring was carried out in the context of each land plot. The following results were received: 22 million ha of arable lands were examined, 685 thousand ha were not used as intended and more than 1 million ha were not used. On pastures 76 million hectares according to land balance. 46 million hectares were examined, of which 12.5 million hectares - high load, 7.4 million hectares - low load, 11.6 million hectares - no cattle according to identification of farm animals," - said the chairman of the Aerospace Committee.

During the Q&A session, journalists asked how much the committee's annual studies cost the budget. According to Baubek Oralmagambetov, the funding mechanism does not require government agencies to maintain a separate budget for space monitoring.

"Our Ministry receives funding from the budget under a separate program and then the aerospace committee sends the money to the national operator under an agreement with Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary. The funding includes space images, their processing and field studies. State organizations do not allocate money in their budgets", - explained the Chairman of the Aerospace Committee.

According to his information, about 3.1 billion tenge is spent per year on space monitoring management, hardware and technical support, image processing.
