Farmers of Almaty region have mastered intensive gardening

Intensive horticulture in Almaty region is gaining momentum. Many farms in the region have mastered the advanced technology and receive high quality products, the World of NAN reports with reference to the press service of the regional Akim.

In Enbekshikazakh region about 25 agricultural formations are engaged in intensive horticulture. Area of intensive orchards in the region exceeds 2 thousand hectares, and the gross yield of apples has increased to 50 thousand tons, the average yield of 84 c/ha.

In Kyzylsharyk village, planting of seedlings was started in 2017. The new orchard grows such varieties as "Gala", "Golden Delicious", "Granny Smith", "Fuji" and others. The high-grade seedlings quickly took root, the apple trees in the orchard are already 3-4 years old. The young apple orchard covers an area of 126 hectares, it is completely covered with a special net protecting the fruit from birds and hail, and partially from the heat. Last year, orchardists received about 40 tons of apples per hectare.

"On one hectare there are 4,200 seedlings of apple trees, their height reaches 3.5 meters. The distance between the fruit trees is 80 cm, this is one of the characteristics of an intensive orchard. This distance between trees gives them a better opportunity to strengthen and grow. This allows, on the one hand, an economical use of the available land, and on the other hand, a rich harvest," explains the farm manager.

According to him, there is drip irrigation in the orchard. Each tree uses about 12 liters of water a day. Everything is regulated by an automatic system operated by one person. Three other people make sure that irrigation tubes do not get clogged by debris and soil. Particular attention is paid to protecting apple trees from pests, providing them with mineral fertilizers for top dressing.

The development of horticulture provides employment. Thus, the collection of autumn harvest involved about 300 people, most of whom are local residents. In the territory of the garden are two fruit storage facilities. In the 18 chambers there are all conditions for the winter and summer storage of 600 tons of apples.

According to the Regional Department of Agriculture, by the end of last year, the total area of orchards in Almaty region reached 23.7 thousand hectares, including intensive - 2.8 thousand hectares. In total, this year the region through the renovation of old orchards planted 494.1 hectares of new orchards, including 257.6 hectares of seed orchards, including 211 hectares of intensive, as well as 194 hectares of stone fruit, 1.5 ha of berries, 41 ha of vines.
