Farmers lose crops due to reconstruction of water canals

The reconstruction of several water canals in Zhambyl region is being delayed, which may leave farmers without crops. Farmers blame Kazvodkhoz for everything, World of NAN reports with reference to 24.kz.

Farmer Maut Fazulov managed to water only 7 out of 90 hectares of land this summer. On his fields, sugar beets and corn have already burned without water. He blames it all on Kazvodkhoz, which made incorrect calculations on irrigation water.

"We signed the contract, sowed, but irrigation is delayed. I lost 20 million. Seeds, fertilizers on 90 hectares," Maut Fazulov is indignant.

Farmers in Zhambyl District may also be left without a harvest because of the delayed reconstruction of the Kuat Canal. Work there was supposed to be completed this year, but it was not completed in time. The contractors did not meet the deadline. For this reason, the water was diverted to another canal.

"The project should have been controlled by Kazvodkhoz. Because of this, farmers suffer, they can lose crops. Farmers should have watered crops 6-7 times during the growing season, and they were watered 2-3 times at most," added Shakir Momynkulov, deputy head of the Agriculture Department.

Kazvodkhoz blames coronavirus, which caused the reconstruction of the canal to stop in 2020. Then the term was extended until November 28, 2023. But such excuses will not save farmers' crops in any way.
