In Aitekebiy district, Aktobe region, more than 40% of the sown area has not been harvested due to rains. This year, farmers will not earn any money, and they look at the next season with apprehension, World of NAN reports with reference to informburo.kz.
Farmers' crops have sprouted and are not suitable for processing, and they cannot earn money by selling them for animal feed. But what scares farmers most of all is the next season.
They are worried about the saiga population, which this year destroyed 16,000 hectares of crops. Also next season they expect a mass locust invasion.
This year the authorities failed to cope with the pests. According to farmers, the chemicals used to poison it this year under the state program do not work, so the Ministry of Agriculture needs to buy working drugs.
"If the work is organized the way it was organized this year, there is simply no point in sowing. Under the state program we worked with the insecticide, which is not even 20% effective," said farmer Vitaliy Volynets.
Because of the difficult situation, farmers are asking the authorities to delay loan repayments. The region's akimat has already received 25 such applications, totaling 3.5 billion KZT.
