Financing of agricultural machinery leasing should be doubled

Low rates of agricultural machinery renewal may turn into a big problem in the future. This has been repeatedly mentioned by farmers and even the President. Therefore, the financing policy should be radically revised, reports World of NAN.

Kazakhstan has more than 147 thousand tractors and 38 thousand combines. The average depreciation of agricultural machinery is 80%, of which tractors - 76%, combines - 71%. That is, a huge share of equipment requires constant repair and financial investments. This not only costs farmers' money, but also reduces their productivity. Since worn-out equipment works much less efficiently. And it is very strange that the Ministry of Agriculture with its plans to increase productivity does not pay more attention to the renewal of equipment.

If we take statistics, only 5,844 tractors and 1,236 combines were bought in 2022, which is a little less than 4%. Considering the amount of worn-out equipment, this is literally a drop in the ocean. At the same time, almost 50% of all equipment was purchased on lease through Kazagrofinance. Thus, the leasing program allowed to increase the rate of renewal of agricultural machinery by two times. That is, the system is effective, but limited by the budget, despite the fact that there are huge needs in the country.

For example, under the preferential leasing program, more than four thousand farmers' applications have not been considered due to the lack of budget. That is, thousands of farmers want to upgrade their equipment, but cannot. Therefore, the government should reconsider the financing of leasing of agricultural machinery in the direction of increasing its budget. Otherwise, in a few years the machinery problem will grow to unimaginable proportions.
