During his visit to Brussels, Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev met with European commissioners. He said that Kazakhstan is ready to supply a wide range of agricultural products, World of NAN reports.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, during talks with European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan stressed the readiness of the Government to further expand the trade and economic partnership with the EU.
"Kazakhstan has all opportunities to become a supplier of high quality organic food, said Yerbol Karashukeyev. In particular, the question was about the export of domestic fish products to the EU. The corresponding negotiations are completed and there are already commercial agreements on the purchase of Kazakh fish products with France and Switzerland, "- said the press service.
Our country could also supply the European market with honey, horse meat, beef and dairy products.
It is worth mentioning that Kazakhstan's fish export to the EU increased nearly 1.5 times last year and amounted to 8.7 thousand tons, the main consumers were Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Austria and Germany.
During the meeting with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides talked about topical issues of trade development between Kazakhstan and the EU countries.
In particular, amendments to the European legislation on the prohibition of use of antimicrobial agents for preventive purposes, which came into force this year, create difficulties for the export of breeding cattle from European countries to Kazakhstan, said Yerbol Karashukeyev. To resolve this issue, the Minister proposed to work at the expert level to make changes in bilateral veterinary certificates. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture also noted the need to develop joint measures to minimize the risk of bringing animal diseases into Kazakhstan.
The EU accounts for about 30% of Kazakhstan's foreign trade. According to the results of 2022, agricultural commodity turnover grew by 35.6% and amounted to $995.5 mln. Kazakhstan managed to increase exports of flax, wheat, rapeseed and processed cereals.
