Ekibastuz resident will start growing hydroponic forage for cattle

Ekibastuz entrepreneur Symbat Mahmet plans to grow hydroponic green fodder for cattle farms. According to the enthusiast, hydroponic fodder perfectly increases the productivity of cattle, reports World of NAN with reference to Pavlodarnews.

To implement his business idea, S. Mahmet participated in a grant competition and received three million to buy equipment.

According to Symbat Mahmet, hydroponic green fodder is seven-day-old sprouted grain that has reached peak growth.

"From one kilogram of grain we get 7-10 kilograms of hydroponic feed in seven days. This feed is eight times cheaper than meal from chopped grass, five times cheaper than mixed fodder, seven times cheaper than hay, cake and meal. Such food is rich in micro and macro nutrients, vitamins, proteins and is natural," said the entrepreneur.

The green fodder also attracts animals with its appearance, taste and texture.

"This feed is well consumed and also well absorbed by the body of the animal. It is an environmentally friendly product that is easy and economical to produce. Depending on the climatic conditions of the area, it can be grown indoors and outdoors at any time of the year," says Ekibastuz.

The advantage of hydroponic feed is that Ekibastuz calls for a rapid increase in animal weight and improved meat quality. Cattle and cattle gain weight 20-30% faster. Milk yields increase from 15%. The overall health of the herd improves, and young cattle have improved immunity. Reduces the cost of feed and veterinary care on the farm. Lactation and reproduction periods are increased.

To get a green forage, you need to go through several processes: prepare and grow grain, increase the green mass and spread the root part.

"We place the fine, dry grain mass under a mercury-quartz alloy antibacterial lamp for 5 to 8 minutes. It is irradiated with ultraviolet light. As a result, bacteria on the surface of the grain are destroyed, and the grain is protected from possible rot and bacterial growth," explained the specialist.

Grain is then washed in special containers and soaked in 5% chlorine solution. Then they are distributed in containers and incubated for 24 hours. It is important not to let the grain dry out during this time. Occasionally it is wet with water, and it should not collect at the bottom of the container.

Theoretically, two liters of water are needed to grow a kilogram of hydroponic feed in a week. But the amount depends on the irrigation method.
