Issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran in terms of export of domestic agricultural products were discussed by the Chairman of the Board of Prodkorporatsiya Asylkhan Dzhuvashev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kazakhstan Ali Akbar Jokar, reports World of NAN with reference to JSC.
Kazakhstan has significantly reduced wheat exports to Iran, last year the volumes amounted to only 15.6 thousand tons. At the same time, the Iranian side doubled imports of barley - about 246 thousand tons.
Prodkorporatsiya plans to start shipment of grain and barley to Iran. Now the selection of potential partners is underway.
Asylkhan Dzhuvashev said that the volumes could be even higher, but the export potential is pressured by low prices of Russian wheat, which creates problems for domestic grain traders.
Ali Akbar Jokar, in turn, spoke about the existing problems in mutual trade between the two countries. He noted that the development of exports and imports, including agricultural products, is hindered by economic sanctions imposed on Iran and difficulties in making payments.
The ambassador also noted that despite the existing trade and economic issues, the cooperation in this direction can be deepened by the interaction between the Prodkorporatsiya and the GTC company, a company specializing in the purchase, import and distribution of basic foodstuffs in Iran.
