K. Tokayev: there is no real result in the development of agriculture

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at today's meeting on social and economic development of the country also spoke about the high food inflation, World of NAN reports referring to Kazinform.

As the head of the state noted, there has been an unprecedented rise in food prices over the last 15 years.

"In February this year, inflation was 21.3%, reaching its peak. More than half of the money that the population spends every month is spent on food. The actions taken by the Government are insufficient. Prohibition and restrictive measures work only temporarily. Such steps do not allow to fully get rid of difficulties, one can say that they exacerbate them," said the President.

"There is no real result in the development of agriculture and industry. This is the main cause of food inflation. The volume of goods produced in the country is not enough to meet domestic demand. We depend on imports," the head of state added.

In this regard, it is important to correctly use stabilization funds to reduce inflation, said K.Tokayev.

"In addition to increasing the volume of domestic production, it is important to properly use stabilization funds to combat price hikes. Today they operate in a disjointed and non-transparent manner. Corruption schemes are regularly revealed," said the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Therefore, as the head of state noted, it is necessary, in particular, to more actively use the potential of Prodkorporatsiya for the purchase and intervention on the main commodity items, to strengthen the coordination of the work of Prodkorporatsiya with the stabilization funds of the SEC.

"Uniform approaches, the orientation of the state company to reduce price fluctuations will allow to obtain a market anti-inflationary tool," summarized Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
