Kostanai region has become the leader in meat production, but its main consumer is the residents of Atyrau region, World of NAN reports with reference to Energyprom.kz.
Akmola and Mangistau regions are in second and third place. In total, in the second quarter of this year, consumption of meat and meat products in Kazakhstan amounted to 19.7 kg on average per person - this is 3.5% more than a year earlier.
Most of all Kazakhs ate beef - 6.1 kg per quarter, annual growth - by 7.8%. Second and third places in popularity were taken by horse meat - 1.4 kg, plus 9.2% and lamb - 1.4 kg, minus 2.1%.
Along with consumption in the country, the number of livestock is also growing. Thus, on October 1, there were 9.2 million heads of cattle in the country - 2.9% more than a year earlier. The number of horses increased by 8.2% to 4.1 million heads, sheep by 4.2% to 21.8 million heads and poultry by 4.2% to 52.1 million heads.
