Kazakhstan intends to increase exports of agricultural products to Turkey

The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeyev had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey Vahit Kirişçi, the World of NAN reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The meeting was held in Ankara on May 10, 2022. During its opening ceremony, the head of the Kazakh Minister noted the stable development of the Kazakh-Turkish relations in the sphere of agriculture. Thus, in January-February 2022 trade turnover with the Republic of Turkey on agricultural products amounted to about $ 37 million, an increase of 62% over the same period in 2021 (22.7 million U.S. dollars). Exports increased by 55% and amounted to 19.5 million USD. Imports increased by 69% to $17.1 million.

According to the Minister, the potential for trade development between the two countries has great prospects. In this regard, Kazakhstan is interested in increasing exports of meat products, vegetable oils and other animal products. There is interest in increasing exports of processed meat and dairy products (canned meat and meat, skimmed milk, butter, dairy products, cheese, cottage cheese, etc.). There is also a demand for Turkish fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, etc. in Kazakhstan.

The head of the RK department highly appreciated Turkey's experience in the development of leather and wool processing. "The Kazakh party is interested in attracting your experience in this sector to implement joint projects, we have sufficient volumes of raw materials for this," - said the Head of Department.

He also emphasized Turkey's experience, which is one of the three world leaders in apple production thanks to measures taken to develop modern methods of breeding. "In this regard, our country would like to develop cooperation with Turkish investors for the production of seedlings on meristem (in-vitro) technology, - said Y. Karashukeyev.

At the end of the meeting, the head of agriculture added that Kazakhstan is interested in Turkey's experience and expressed hope for cooperation with the Turkish side in the production and processing of agricultural products, the development of agricultural science, the introduction of modern technologies, as well as food safety.

On this day, the ministers signed an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine and plant protection.
