Kazakhstan increased imports of Russian wheat

In January-July 2023, the country imported 2.8 million tons of wheat and meslin, which is 3.6 times more compared to the same period last year. The supplies cost Kazakhstan $213.4 million, World of NAN reports with reference to lsm.kz.

The main supplier was Russia - 2.8 million tons (+3.6 times). Wheat was also imported from Germany - 153.1 tons (+4.4 times) and Italy - 120.7 tons (-18.4%). And this is despite the fact that the country blocked the import of wheat into the territory of Kazakhstan by motor transport.

Barley imports also increased - 10.8 times, up to 327.5 thousand tons ($39.6 million). Almost the entire volume of this product was supplied from Russia.

Kazakhstan also began to buy more rice - 3.3 times (19.3 thousand tons at $12.7 million), from Russia - 12.6 thousand tons (+4.1 times), India - 3.8 thousand tons (+2.4 times) and Pakistan - 1.6 thousand tons (+1.6 times).a
