Kazakhstan to resume FMD-free status in May

The World Organisation for Animal Health last year suspended foot-and-mouth disease-free statuses in four zones in Kazakhstan without vaccination. Now the country expects to regain its FMD-free status in May. This was stated by the Chairman of the Committee on Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture A. Zhakupbayev at an expanded collegium of the Ministry of Agriculture, reports World of NAN.

The speaker noted that last year there was one case of FMD registered in Karaganda Region. After carrying out the necessary measures, this outbreak was eliminated in February.

"To prevent the spread of FMD vaccination was carried out in the northwestern and central regions. To date, vaccination has been fully carried out. We do not have any signs of foot-and-mouth disease," said Zhakupbayev.

According to the head of the committee, if previously there was a strategy to vaccinate cattle in the country only in 5 regions, now vaccination will be carried out throughout the country.

"The file has already been sent to the World Organization for Animal Health. We are working with them. At the end of April, beginning of March, a mission of the World Organization will visit us. As early as in May, the General Session will take a decision on declaring our country free from FMD", - said a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture.
