Kazakhstan buys cheap Russian wheat to keep prices down

Memorandums for the supply of cheap grain have been signed by 16 regions of Kazakhstan, while grain and flour are exported by 12 regions, World of NAN reports with reference to the Government.

Of the 16 regions that signed memorandums with the Prodkorporatsiya, the North Kazakhstan region has not yet identified a flour milling operator, signed a supply contract or made payment. Almaty and Ulytau regions have not made payment, which delays the delivery of grain to flour mills.

Reduced price grain allocated from the Prodkorporatsiya reserves is necessary for making social bread and ensuring its stable price.

Regarding the import of Russian grain, according to KTZh, flour milling enterprises for October 2023 submitted applications for import of 274 thousand tons of grain, but as of October 20 only 57 thousand tons were actually received. The main reason is the lack of timely payment for grain by flour mills. In September, the volume of imported wheat amounted to 107 thousand tons.

Russian wheat is necessary for Kazakhstan enterprises to produce flour and pasta. In order to solve emerging difficulties in deliveries with each flour milling operator in the regions, government agencies and the national railroad operator will daily work out the scheme of delivery of social products to the enterprises on a point-by-point basis.
