China and Kazakhstan establish a working group to develop cooperation in the agro-industrial complex

Agricultural commodity turnover between Kazakhstan and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region may reach 1 billion dollars per year. A respective agreement was reached during the meeting between Yerbol Karashukeyev, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, and Ma Xingrui, Secretary of the Xinjiang UAR Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, reports World of NAN.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture is visiting PRC, where he is holding talks with the leadership of the branch government agencies of China, as well as with the business community. Xinjiang accounts for over 40% of Kazakhstan's trade with China and by the end of 2022 the figure was 382 million dollars.

Yerbol Karashukeyev said that our country attaches great importance to expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture and increase of mutual supply of agricultural products. Now in China there is a growing demand for the consumption of organic and environmentally friendly agricultural products.

"In particular, Kazakhstan is ready to resume supplies of frozen meat and start exporting chilled meat and fish products, poultry and by-products, pork, eggs, horse meat and other types of goods," the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said.

However, the export potential is hampered by temporary veterinary restrictions from the Chinese side, the Minister stressed. At the same time, Kazakhstan has all the necessary resources to maintain the welfare of infectious diseases, which are noted by the expert mission of the World Organization for Animal Health.

"The existing practice of mutual restrictions on animal diseases leads to trade barriers that last for years. I think it is time to reconsider inefficient trade approaches and move to the recognition of regionalization of our countries, not limiting exports from the entire territory, also it is necessary to reduce the time for approval of veterinary and phytosanitary requirements", - said Yerbol Karashukeyev.

In addition, the Chinese market is also of great interest for the export of Kazakh grain. Today there is potential to increase volume of annual supply up to 1 million tons and more, added the head of the Ministry of Agriculture. Pulses, as well as oilcake and oilcake cake can be added to the list of products supplied to XUAR, which in turn will contribute to a significant increase in trade turnover between our countries, the Minister said.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to create a working group on the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture, in which cooperation in all priority areas will be carried out, including the removal of barriers to mutual trade between the countries.
