Corruption is rampant in the Ministry of Agriculture

In 2023, 64 corruption offences were detected in the agriculture sector, of which 26 were against employees of the ministry of agriculture and its subordinate organisations, World of NAN reports.

The figures provided by the anti-corruption agency are not impressive. But it should be borne in mind that these are only detected violations; in fact, there may be many more offences. And the culprits may be not only civil servants, but also farmers themselves.

Thus, last year 48 persons were brought to criminal liability for corruption, including 13 employees of the Ministry of Agriculture. Moreover, a quarter of the prosecuted persons are businessmen who tried to give a bribe for not bringing to administrative responsibility or general patronage. Thus, 25% of the offences were committed by businessmen. In other words, farmers themselves sometimes stimulate corruption, which is so zealously condemned by the public.

The leading regions for corruption in agriculture are Atyrau and North Kazakhstan regions and Almaty city.
