Big business is interested in investing in sheep breeding

A prominent businessman from the Zhetisu region shared his opinion on the development of sheep breeding in the country, World of NAN reports with reference to the NCE.

"Alakol-Agro is one of the largest farms in the region. It has about 45,000 head of small cattle. In particular, about 28 thousand breeding stock, as well as about 580 heads of camels. The farm uses modern technologies in raising sheep, which allows them to achieve efficiency in production and provide high quality meat.

Several breeds of sheep are grown on the farm - brown and black koshkar, koshkar akkarabas, crossed with Kazakh Kurdish coarse-wool sheep - Yedilbai, Blutexel. Also crossed with Texel breed - Katadin, crossed with South Kazakhstan merino - Dorper, Dorper pure.

"Today big business is interested in investing in sheep breeding. For our company sheep breeding is a new direction, but now we consider the industry as a stable source of income in the long term", - said the head of Alakol Agro LLP Skendir Turekhanov.

Indeed, the industry has room to grow. Since Kazakhstan lost about 14 million head of sheep during its independence. If in 1990, the number of sheep and goats in Kazakhstan was about 35 million heads, then this year the number is about 21 million heads.
