Where is the flood water diverted to?

The Ministry of Water Resources has told how flood water is used and where it is redirected, World of NAN reports.

In the Atyrau region, 14.5 kilometers of additional canals are being dug to redirect flood water from the Ural (Zhaiyk) River to the Caspian Sea.

The WKR started to discharge water from the Ural-Kushum irrigation and watering system into the Kamysh-Samar lakes. It also became possible to direct water to the Ural-Kushum flood irrigation system.

Large reservoirs of the Tobol River cascade provided safe passage of flood waters and were filled by 92%, which is more than in previous years.

The floods filled the Astana reservoir, and the capital will have drinking water for a year. Previously, the city had to be fed through the Satpayev Canal, a process that cost over 2 billion tenge.

In the Akmola region, the Alva and Kenbiddaik flood irrigation systems are 100% full. The beds of the rivers Kozykosh, Mukyr and Karasu in the Tselinograd district have also been replenished. 1.5 billion cubic meters of water were directed to Lake Tengiz of Korgalyzhinsky reserve. The reservoirs of the Karaganda region are also fully filled.

Water released from the Kengir reservoir of Ulytau region entered through the Sarysu River into the lakes of Kyzylorda region. Active filling of the Telikol system of lakes in the Kyzylorda region is observed, which should have a favorable impact on agriculture in the region.

For environmental purposes, water from the Tasotkel reservoir in Zhambyl region is discharged along the Shu River; about 1 million cubic meters of water should be delivered to the Sozak region.

From the cascade of reservoirs of the Irtysh River, environmental releases are carried out. This will allow to provide necessary base for agriculture of Pavlodar region. In total, it is planned to release 6.3 billion cubic meters of water from the reservoirs.
