Ministry of Agriculture wants to allow export of onions

A draft of the order allowing export of onions from Kazakhstan is under discussion at the Open LA website. Instead of a ban the Ministry of Agriculture plans to introduce export quotas, World of NAN reports.

Let us remind you that the ban on the export of onions was introduced on January 28 for three months and caused a wave of outrage among farmers. Instead of letting the agricultural producers earn money, the government closed the market in a completely non-market way.

At the same time, the price on the domestic market did not stabilize at all. According to the data of the National Statistics Bureau, as of March 14 onions rose in price by 81.6% in annual dynamics.

Exports will be opened, but a quantitative restriction on exports will be imposed until April 28, 2023. Farmers will be allowed to export 20 thousand tons of onions. The quantitative volume limit per applicant will be 500 tons.

Discussion of the order of the Ministry of Agriculture will last until March 29. The order will take effect after the first official publication.
