The Ministry of Agriculture continues to press its point on locusts

Publications in the media about massive damage to crops from locusts, including information about the affected 23 thousand hectares of farmland in Kostanai region do not correspond to reality, reports the World of NAN with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the agency, despite the facts of locusts' flight to crops, according to confirmed data no more than 0.5 thousand hectares of crops were affected.

" Spot work was carried out with individual peasant farms, where the spread of insects was recorded. However, during the control inspections of crops no damage to crops was found. Inspection of territories was conducted in the presence of heads of peasant farms, all the work was recorded in appropriate acts, which are signed by both heads of territorial inspections and farmers themselves," - explained in the department.

For example, the survey area of the farm "Koshkodan S.I." in Naurzum district amounted to 3.7 thousand hectares. As a result of migration of locusts from border areas, the entire area was subject to treatment.

Aircraft and aerosol gas generator were used for phytosanitary measures. Sown areas were not damaged, according to the staff of the agricultural department.

During the monitoring on locust swarms in Zhangeldy district, damage was observed on safflower crops of "Kasenov T.G." farm. A visual inspection revealed that the damage was caused by saigas.
