Flour, cereals, oils: who buys products of Kazakhstan?

Oil, metals and other resources are traditionally considered Kazakhstan's main export commodities. Recently, however, the situation is changing - the country is steadily increasing exports of non-commodities, according to World of NAN.

According to the company kazakhexport, in 2022 the volume of Kazakhstan's non-resource exports to foreign countries amounted to one third of the country's total exports - $26.5 billion.

Kazakhstan goods are gaining popularity abroad. For example, vegetable oils from Kazakhstani plants can be bought in stores in Germany, Poland, Belgium and other countries. In China, too, Kazakh food products have gained special popularity. But in addition to food, domestic carpets are also sent to the UAE.

"It should be understood that it is not easy to get to European and many Asian markets - in addition to high requirements to product quality, the implementation of activities in a new unfamiliar business environment is accompanied by increased risks for exporters," say experts of the company.

The list of export destinations of Kazakhstani enterprises includes such countries as: Uzbekistan, Russia, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, Italy and Turkey.

In terms of industries - oil and fat products, beverages, salt, flour, cereals, starch, confectionery, sausage and meat products.

In the world practice, risks of exporters are covered by export credit agencies, which are also engaged in promotion of export-oriented companies of the country. In Kazakhstan, such activities are carried out by a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding - the export insurance company KazakhExport.

According to the national company, since 2016 it has supported more than 200 Kazakh exporters to the amount of 845.3 billion tenge. Last year, domestic companies supplying non-resource goods abroad received assistance in the amount of 259.1 billion tenge.
