We are underestimating the consequences of locust spreading

The government of Kazakhstan is concerned about the huge areas of locust spread, World of NAN reports with the reference to the Cabinet of Ministers.

In Turkestan region, more than 50,000 hectares have been identified. Additional treatment is being carried out in Arys, Saryagash, Keles, Ordabasinsk and Shardara districts of Turkestan region.

Locust hatching has started in Aitekebiy rayon of Aktobe region. In the region, chemical treatment was carried out on 281 thousand hectares of land in 12 districts using 76 units of machinery. And in Kostanay region, chemical treatment has been carried out on only 29,400 hectares in five districts of the region.

"We have never before faced such huge areas of locust spreading as this year. And we all underestimate the possible consequences of its spread. I instruct the State Inspection Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture to immediately finalise all procedural issues and send all the necessary equipment to the regions where it is needed. In the hot season we will switch to meetings of the headquarters twice a week,” said Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.
