Today the first contracting conference "Tukym 2022 - Seed Day" was held in the capital of the country. At this Conference Chairman of the Board of Scientific and Agrarian National Education Center G. Isayeva shared several news at once - Kazakhstan will create the Association of Breeders and National Genetic Bank of crops, reports World of NAN.
Addressing the audience, Isayeva dwelled on the main points on industry development, and stressed that the development of domestic seed production and breeding is among the priority tasks of the Ministry of Agriculture.
"Work has already begun to bring order to seed production. A system of seed farms is being created. Digital seed traceability system will be introduced, which will ensure strict control over the promotion of seed material both within the country and for export," - noted the speaker.
According to the head of NASEC, analytical center specialists are directly involved in the development of the modules of the above-mentioned information system. They have already created a primary base for seed production. The experience of other countries, including Russia, the United States in ensuring transparency of the seed market is thoroughly studied in this direction.
As the speaker noted, the Association of Breeders is open for cooperation and is ready to accept into the ranks all those who wish to exchange experience, develop new methods of breeding.
"We are in favor of establishing the Association, expecting that the public body will ensure the preparation of necessary legislative acts, taking into account the opinions and requests of business and scientists", - said G.Isayeva.
As for the National Genetic Bank of crops, it will be established on the basis of NASEC subsidiary - Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Crop Husbandry.
Head of NASEC reported that inspection and inventory have already been carried out. There are about 64 thousand agricultural plants. Work on the material and technical equipment of the center has begun. It will take many years to comply with international requirements, but it is expected to be opened this year.
Ms. Isayeva also said that currently a long-term scientific program for 15-20 years is under development, within which scientists will support breeding works on creation of new varieties, resistant to climate change to meet the needs of domestic farmers.
"The program has been developed, it has passed scientific and technical expertise and now the Ministry of Agriculture is taking measures to start financing this long-term program. The program will provide specific support to scientists in the creation of new varieties," G. Isayeva said.
The speaker considers the improvement of human resources capabilities to be an important stage in the development of the industry. For this purpose she proposed to train not just agronomists but agronomists-breeders in agrarian universities who will have practical skills, knowledge of new methods of breeding and genetics.
