Domestic farmers are dependent on imported fertilizers

A total of 257,000 tonnes of fertiliser was shipped to farmers for the spring sowing campaign, including 144,000 tonnes of locally-produced fertiliser, World of NAN reports, citing the government press service.

A total of 88,000 tonnes are in stock, Vice Minister of Agriculture Abulkhair Tamabek noted. About 704,000 tonnes of fertiliser, including 63% produced in Kazakhstan, are slated for the current growing season.

The local budgets allocated 31.3 billion tenge for the fertilizer subsidy program. To protect crops from pests and weeds there were 32.6 billion tenge allocated under subsidies.

Also the issue of shipment of fuel and lubricants to the regions was considered. Volume of subsidized diesel fuel for spring field campaign increased by 19 thousand and reached 419 thousand tons. The average cost of diesel fuel for agricultural producers is 204 tg per liter, which is 30% cheaper than the market price. The regions have already received 47% of the envisaged amount of fuel.

Note from the beginning of spring field work in the southern regions of Kazakhstan agrarians sowed 832.9 thousand hectares, mostly cereals, feed and oilseeds. Overall, 23.4 million hectares are planned to be sown across the whole country.
