The coronavirus pandemic had no impact on agricultural production in Kazakhstan

Despite the coronovirus pandemic, the situation in the agro-industrial sector remains stable at the end of four months of this year. Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov informed about it today at the reporting meeting.

"For four months the volume of gross agricultural output has increased by 2.2%, while food production has increased by 2.4%. Investments in fixed assets of agriculture increased by 10.1% and amounted to 98.4 billion tenge, food production - by 14.9% and amounted to 20.6 billion tenge. Gross output of livestock production grew by 2.3 per cent. The growth in production is due to a 3.6% increase in meat production and a 3.2% increase in milk production," Omarov said.

He also noted that measures have been taken for timely spring field work, and today the sowing is being completed.

"The situation with the coronovirus pandemic has shown that issues of food security, as well as agricultural development have become one of the main ones. Many countries are now reviewing the strategy for the development of the agro-industrial complex with an emphasis on saturation of the domestic market and import substitution," the head of the MoA said.

In 2019, gross agricultural output increased by 0.9% to 5.2 trillion KZT, he said. At the same time, production of livestock products increased by 4%, while plant production decreased by 1.7% due to adverse weather conditions.

In 2019, the industry attracted KZT 501.6 billion of investments, 41% more than last year (in 2018 - KZT 395.6 billion).

Agricultural productivity in 2019 amounted to KZT 2.4 million per employee, an increase of 14% over the previous year.
