Darhan Abdikarimov, head of the territorial inspection of the Committee for State Inspection in the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said that next year will be the peak of locust infestation, World of NAN reports with reference to inform.kz.
Since last year, the region has planned to treat land from pests on the area of 422 thousand hectares, as of this morning 372 thousand hectares have been treated.
"We have not reached the planned figure, there are locusts, but this is a standard situation. Locusts come, now is the peak, which will last for the next two years - this year and the next. After that, the spread will decline," said Darkhan Abdikarimov.
Meanwhile, the agency assured that those farmers who suffered losses should not expect compensation from the state.
"There will be no compensation. It's the same as if we compensate for damage to crops caused by heat. This is a natural phenomenon," Abdikarimov concluded.
