Greenhouse growers also cannot cope with cheap imports

In early May, greenhouse strawberry producers raised the problem of the abundance of imported and cheaper berries in the country's markets, which is why they are forced to suffer losses, World of NAN reports with reference to the government.

Ashirafi Shimbergenov, head of the Abduraman peasant farm, invested 300 million tenge in a project to grow strawberries in open and closed ground with a total area of 33 hectares. The greenhouse was built using South Korean technology on a plot of 5.5 hectares. The farmer wants to scale up, but cannot receive investment subsidies to expand production. He was also supported by other greenhouse growers, emphasizing that this form of government support is not available to them.

“There is a problem that repeats itself from year to year - the sales market. As soon as we start harvesting, the price drops. And we will soon be ready to cover all of Kazakhstan’s needs for cucumbers during the season. We need only 2-3 months to sell the harvest in full, without an influx of greenhouse vegetables and berries from neighboring countries into the market,” said Daniyar Kaltayev, Chairman of the Association of Greenhouse Farms.
