Currently, the area under cereal crops in the People's Republic of China is at an all-time high. Therefore, there is no scope for increasing grain production by expanding the area, and the country has taken a different path, World of NAN reports.
Xinjiang has seen its grain harvest grow for eight consecutive years and last year set a record harvest of 20 million tonnes. The two increases in planted area and production ranked first in the country, exceeding targets.
How was this achieved? The ‘three experiences of Xinjiang’ played an important role. The first was strengthening political and financial state support for farmers; the second was the use of science, advanced technologies, improved varieties and methods; and the third was ensuring the protection of grain crops. And it was scientists who played a key role, helping to create a grassroots mechanism, promoting advanced technologies and good seeds.
The methods are simple and seem like they are on the surface, but they worked. In 2024, spring cereal yield per unit area is 394.59 kilogrammes/mu, which is 7.28 kilogrammes/mu more than the previous year (mu=0.06 ha). And overall, wheat yield per unit area has increased for the sixth consecutive year.
And here is a living example when farmers, authorities and science unite for real. Without graceful populism, which is being actively disseminated in Kazakhstan. By the way, Xinjiang's experience was studied by a group of wheat experts from the Ministry of Agriculture of China, and this experience will be passed on.
