Government extends ban on export of breeding stock

At a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations, for the purpose of anti-inflationary response and support to the domestic economy of the country, it was decided to establish a number of bans on the export of goods and raw materials necessary for the production of finished products. During the discussion it was decided to extend the previously introduced ban on the export of breeding stock of cattle and small cattle, reports World of NAN, citing the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

According to members of the interdepartmental commission, the extension of the ban should help stabilize domestic prices of meat and meat products as well as increase the number of farm animals.

To recall, there are experts in Kazakhstan, both supporting the introduction of restrictions on the export of livestock, and opponents of the idea. Many of them think that limitation of export of breeding stock will not considerably affect meat price. Especially since farmers have a stable income due to exports.

Other experts advocate a ban on exports. For example, in June the government reviewed the proposal of A. Sadyrbayev, chairman of the National Association of Sheep Breeders of Kazakhstan, to introduce a total ban on the export of live small cattle. Then the interdepartmental commission did not support the activist's proposal. And as a result of discussions, the Ministry of Agriculture was instructed to work on the introduction of a quota mechanism for the export of live cattle in the autumn of this year to ensure the balance of the sector of production and sale of mutton.
