Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the XIX Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, dedicated to agriculture, World of NAN reports with reference to Akorda.
The leader of Kazakhstan pointed out one of the problems of the agriculture sector. According to his data, losses of own agricultural products due to deficiencies of logistics and storage systems in Kazakhstan and Russia reach 40%.
"An important area of our bilateral cooperation should be the development of storage infrastructure, including elevators, vegetable and fruit storage facilities. Kazakhstan plans to increase climate-controlled storage capacity by 1 million tons in the near future," the president said.
Kazakhstan has promising markets - China, India and the Middle East. Given their growing needs for food, the role of the North-South transportation corridor will also be strengthened.
"One of the priorities of our cooperation may be the development of new logistics directions through Central Asia and increasing the capacity of existing routes to China. In this regard, we have planned a large-scale modernization of the Caspian ports of Kuryk and Aktau. In the Chinese direction, we are already implementing a project to build second tracks on the Dostyk-Moyinty railroad section. In general, over 1.3 thousand kilometers of railroads will be laid in Kazakhstan in three years," Tokayev stressed.
