President: we have reserves to increase exports of agricultural products to Tajikistan

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon discussed strengthening of trade and economic cooperation, World of NAN reports with reference to Akorda.

Last year, bilateral trade turnover amounted to $1.4 billion. The states plan to increase mutual trade to the mark of at least two billion dollars.

"Kazakh producers are already ready to increase their exports to Tajikistan on 60 commodity items totaling more than $140 million," Tokayev said.

Last year, trade in agricultural products between the countries increased by 40%, exceeding $500 million. Kazakhstan is one of the largest suppliers of wheat and flour to Tajikistan.

"At the same time, we have reserves to increase exports of vegetable oils, pasta, dairy products and confectionery products. In turn, Kazakhstan is interested in importing fruit and vegetable products from Tajikistan on a systematic basis. We have agreed to consider the prospects of establishing joint ventures for the production, processing and storage of agricultural products," added President of Kazakhstan.

For effective and timely implementation of the agreements reached, the Roadmap for enhancing cooperation in agriculture until 2025 was signed.
