The government of Kazakhstan continues the practice of non-market regulation in the agricultural sector. At the next meeting of the interdepartmental commission, decisions were made on wheat and livestock, World of NAN reports.
Thus, the ban on the export of breeding stock of cattle and small cattle from the territory of Kazakhstan was extended for 6 months. This ban was introduced in Kazakhstan on January 8, 2024.
The government explained that the reasons for this decision are the task of large-scale construction of dairy farms and support for the development of livestock using the Australian method. The logic is not entirely clear, since livestock breeders are losing part of their income due to the restrictions and it is unclear how to develop in such conditions.
The ban on the import of wheat into Kazakhstan by all types of transport has also been extended until the end of the year. Allegedly, the ban will help to contain gray imports. But this is also debatable, since control on the border with Russia is not so strict. Who will prevent the import of wheat under the guise of sunflower or rapeseed?
