Innovative technologies, which allow the production of high value-added products, as well as reduction of negative impact on the environment were discussed at the roundtable "The future of alternative plant products in the Eurasian space," World of NAN reports with reference to the EEC.

The event was chaired by Artak Kamalyan, Minister of Industry and Agro-industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission with the participation of representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), executive authorities, business structures, industry unions and associations, research and educational institutions of the Eurasian Economic Union.

"Today, it is important to develop the agricultural sector in the EAEU countries based on global trends, such as organic agriculture, alternative proteins, the introduction of digital technologies, as well as a special emphasis on the sustainable development of the agricultural sector," Artak Kamalyan said.

The participants of the discussion reviewed the growth potential of the production and sale of alternative livestock products in the EAEC and in the world, including economic and technological aspects, the issues of human and scientific support.

In particular, representatives of production companies and retailers noted a constant increase in demand for plant products. This trend is a consequence of the influence of the trend towards healthy lifestyles, good nutrition and environmental protection. Here, on the platform of EEC, the participants of the event got acquainted with the experience of development of alternatives to animal products on the example of a successful start-up.

Participants of the meeting paid special attention to the current issues of technical regulation of plant-based products, pointing out the need to develop relevant interstate standards in the EAEU.

The Union of Manufacturers of Vegetable-Based Products announced the results of the All-Russian Center of Public Opinion Research on the perception of vegetable products, which was conducted by order of the branch association. The results of the monitoring showed that the majority of the Russian population is aware of the presence of plant products on the market. 58% of respondents believe that plant-based meat is made only from plant components without the use of animal meat, and this is taking into account the fact that 79% of them have not tried plant-based meat. 14% responded that such meat is of animal origin with added plant-based components. The remainder of the surveyed audience had difficulty answering the question.

At the end of the event the parties agreed on the necessity to strengthen the interstate cooperation within EAEU in order to determine the approaches to sustainable development of agriculture, development of innovative technologies and common requirements, which will allow the countries of the Union to bring the industry to a new, modern competitive level.
