Russia has restricted the import of live animals from Kazakhstan

Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision) has restricted the import of live animals susceptible to foot and mouth disease (FMD) from Kazakhstan, World of NAN reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation imposed temporary restrictions on import of FMD susceptible live animals, products, raw materials of animal origin and feeds into the Russian Federation effective January 12, 2022 on the precautionary principle except for heat-treated products from the territory of Kazakhstan.

Taking into account the close proximity of the registered center of FMD in Russia to the state border, the Ministry created a working group to conduct epizootic monitoring in the border area. The working group collects samples in the regions for subsequent laboratory tests at the National Reference Center for Veterinary Medicine.
