The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation formed the structure of areas sown for the harvest of 2023. According to the forecast, the gross harvest of grain in the next season could be at the level of 125-127 million tons. At the same time, the ministry intends to reduce the area of wheat, reports World of NAN with reference to Prime.
"The area under cereals and legumes will be tentatively 47.6 million hectares, which is 136 thousand hectares more than the current year. This figure will provide the necessary level of food security. According to estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture, the gross yield at the level of 125-127 million tons of grain will allow to balance the interests of producers, consumers and exporters of grain, "- said in the message.
Currently, the Ministry sees the need to reduce the area under wheat by almost half a million hectares - it is necessary to maintain a balance of prices and stabilize the domestic market in the interests of all participants, as well as to realize a record harvest this year.
"The wheat target for next year is 80-85 million tons," the report said.
To maintain the stability of crop rotation it is necessary to increase the area under spring barley by 400 thousand hectares and under grain legumes - primarily peas - by at least 125 thousand hectares.
"According to experts, the world market of these crops is quite capacious and Russia can strengthen its position there. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture together with exporters plans to develop an export program for barley, peas and other leguminous crops," the ministry points out.
The area under such "socially sensitive crops" as rice and buckwheat is planned slightly above the current year and is sufficient to meet all the needs, in addition, the next year announced growth for sugar beet and soybeans. In turn, sunflower crops need at least 9.8 million hectares, and oilseed flax - no less than 2.2 million hectares; the area under vegetables and potatoes in the organized sector is projected to increase.
In general, the structure of sown areas has been formed and will be fully approved by December 20; it is expected that the total area next year will grow by about 50 thousand hectares and will exceed 82 million hectares.
