The restrictions are expected to be imposed for six months from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, World of NAN reports with reference to rg.ru.
The ban will not affect the supply of durum wheat to Belarus within the framework of the Union State, as well as international humanitarian aid to foreign countries on the basis of decisions of the Russian government.
General Director of the Institute of Agrarian Market Conjuncture Dmitry Rylko calls this decision logical. According to his estimates, this year's harvest of durum wheat is expected to be 1.2 million tons, while in 2022 a record 1.6 million tons were harvested. Such wheat is more prone to germination than soft wheat. This year, too, durum wheat in Siberia and the Urals has been badly affected by the rains - if the harvest is decent, much of it will be of poor quality. Export restrictions will help prevent a shortage of durum wheat on the domestic market.
