S. Omarov: The agreement will help to streamline and improve the competitiveness of domestic pedigree stock

Today a meeting of the Senate of the RK was held, on the agenda of which several issues were considered, including the discussion of the draft law of the RK "On ratification of the Agreement on measures aimed at the unification of selection and stock-breeding work with farm animals in the Eurasian Economic Union". The Minister of Agriculture S. Omarov spoke before the audience and highlighted key points of the document, World of NAN reports citing the press service of the Senate.

In his speech, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted that the agreement regulates the order of selection and stock-breeding work with farm animals in the member states and aims to develop the market of pedigree stock within the Eurasian Economic Union and eliminate barriers to mutual trade.

"Work on the development of the Agreement had been underway since 2014 as part of the work of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and was finalized taking into account the comments of the work group. The agreement corresponds to the goals and objectives of national legislation in the field of livestock breeding and agro-industrial complex," Omarov said.

The minister noted that with a view to application of unified requirements for pedigree stock in member states during selection and breeding work the Agreement provides for unification of procedures for determination of breed (pedigree) of pedigree animals (the list of related species for creation of new breeds will be agreed upon), approbation of new breeds, types, lines and crops of farm animals in Eurasian Economic Union member states (uniformity of work will be provided at co-breeding). Besides it provides unification of Provision on carrying out of molecular genetic examination of tribal products of Eurasian Economic Union member states (DNA study will be unified); order of coordination and analytic provision of selection-breeding work in the sphere of pedigree livestock breeding, carried out in Eurasian Economic Union member states (coordination and analytic provision in the sphere of pedigree livestock breeding will be settled).

It will also unify the composition of information on pedigree animals and breeding achievements to be exchanged between member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and when imported from third countries, methods to assess the pedigree value of animals.

According to S. Omarov, in order to develop and implement in member states innovative technologies in the field of livestock breeding, including genomic selection, will be established a unified procedure for the coordination and analytical support of selection and breeding work in the field of livestock breeding.

Coordination of selection and breeding work will be carried out by authorized bodies of member states, analytical support will be assigned to research organizations.

Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union will exchange information on pedigree animals and breeding achievements.

"The innovations will help to optimize the conduct of selection and breeding work within the Eurasian Economic Union; ensure the development of selection and breeding in animal husbandry; increase the competitiveness of domestic pedigree stock", - summarized S. Omarov.

After discussion of deputies and experts, the Senate adopted the above-mentioned draft law.
