World of NAN previously reported that the Institute of Agricultural Research of the Eastern Mediterranean of the Republic of Turkey and the Agricultural Cooperative of Cotton and Melon Growing LLP from Kazakhstan signed an agreement on cooperation on joint scientific research, development of new varieties of cotton. During an investigation by the World of NAN editorial board, it became clear what the agricultural station actually does.
The agricultural station is one of 34 subsidiaries of NANOC. Its scope includes cotton production, sales, research, testing and seed production. The chairman of the board is Daurenbek Nurman Mamytuly, about whom there is no information other than that he worked as executive director in Kontal LLP, which produces and sells cotton. There he worked together with Kurmanbek Nurzhan Mamytuly, who held the position of president. Is it coincidence or are they brothers with different surnames? The question is rhetorical.
The agricultural station has a relatively small turnover. Its revenues in 2021 amounted to 241 million tenge (+11.6% y/y). From scientific activity LLP earned only - 48 million tenge (20% of revenue), whereas from sales of various agricultural products earned - 154 million tenge in 2021.
Among these products are alfalfa (48 million), cotton fiber (38 million), cotton and raw material (35 million). In 2020 LLP for some reason earned the most on the sale of rice (53 million), while cotton fiber only 11 million tenge. Judging by the turnover, the sale of cotton seeds, which logically should be the primary one, is not. From total volume, it's only 14,9 mln tenge (6,2% of turnover) in 2021 and 13 mln tenge (6,1%) in 2020.
It turns out that the agricultural cotton-growing station for the most part is engaged in sale of agricultural products from 10 leased plots of land. And sometimes they even sell rice or alfalfa for substantial sums, instead of cotton, as the name of the LLP indicates. And okay, if these crops grew by themselves on their land, but the report states that the cost of products is 94% of revenue. It turns out that the LLP, in a sense, is engaged in conventional farming instead of scientific activities. What kind of science development are we talking about then?
